Lent, Day 34: How I Do It
OKay… so… I’m down nearly 60 pounds now, and believe it or not, people actually notice! I’m sure this has to do with the fact that my clothes actually fit now, thanks to Michelle and Lisa, but regardless… Easily the most common reaction I get from people is, “What are you doing?” and, when I tell them, “Wow, how do DO that?”
So this will be the overview post. It will be redundant, but it’s the sort of ‘shop talk’ version of the ADF thing, so it might be interesting even if you’ve been reading awhile.
Here’s what I do:
Exercise+, Day 12: Workin’ It In the Eleventh Hour
Technically, I should probably say I failed today, since I’m finishing up and it’s nearly 1:00 a.m. However, in my defense I technically DID get 120 minutes of ‘exercise’ in before midnight… I finally made good on my threat to get up early and do some Wii Fit first thing. I got in an hour’s worth of workout, but on the whole I wasn’t satisfied with it, so I’m still going to do at least 100 minutes on the treadmill.
I’m such a slave driver! But I intend to backdate (or at least back-time) this entry, because it’ll bug me to see a day on the calendar that isn’t filled.
Cheater, me.
Exercise+, Day 8: Got to admit, it’s getting better…
Today, as Down Days go, was what I think I would term a ‘reassuring’ Down Day. I was very good, ate about 1/2 cup of Quinoa for breakfast, and my usual veggie blends at lunch and dinner. In-between I was legitimately hungry, but not such that I felt miserable. It was just enough to reassure me that I’ve depleted my glycogen stores and presumably my body will be going to my fat stores next.
Just hungry enough to feel like I’m accomplishing something, in other words.
Sing a sad song just to turn it around…
Today I did something I haven’t actually done in awhile… I wrote the journal entry for today when I wasn’t walking. Because today began with such a lot of angst and such, I decided to funnel my energy into cleaning the house rather than coming down here to walk right away. As a result, it’s now 9:43 pm, and I’m only at 71 minutes. So I’m writing again, to give myself something to do.
Exercise, Day 8: Quinoa
Okay, last night I tried quinoa for the first time. This lovely little grain is apparently Gillian McKeith’s absolute favorite thing, because it seems like every week she’s pushing quinoa at the poor suckers (blokes?) she attacks on You Are What You Eat. As tenuous as my affection for ‘Dr’ Gillian McKeith has become of late, quinoa blends rule the Organic/Health Food section at my local supermarket too, so I decided to try some last night.
Exercise, Day 6: Walking Late
Well, sort of. I’ve been in the habit of walking first thing in the morning, but today the boys had basketball camp from 8:00-10:15, and then we took them to Home Depot for the Kids’ Workshop. By the time we got home it was time to make lunch, so between prep, cleanup, and putting Luke down for his nap, I’m getting down here to walk at almost 1:30 pm.
It doesn’t help that Andy is also treadmilling.
He’s not entirely sold on changing what we eat, but he does want to feel better and the treadmill is much easier to do while watching TV than the elliptical, so he’s asserting his right to take part. I am glad of this, but I’m not a patient person and having to wait my turn is annoying.
Fortunately, he goes back to school on Monday, so I won’t have to wait on him. I guess I can afford to be magnanimous.
Exercise, Day 1: Mixing it up.
Well, I survived the Christmas season, and managed to lose a pound of weight in the process. Not too shabby. Back in the old WW days, we were just happy to get through the holidays without gaining, so a 1-pound loss is probably still something to write home about. Besides, I noticed yesterday that I can now comfortably fit in my size 20 pants, whereas before I was squeezing into size 22/24. I am resolved, therefore, to celebrate it as a success and move on. (more…)
ADF/WW: Day 17
Well, I was good. I ate a 3-point box of the Healthy Weight veggie blend (Mmm, Edamame!) for lunch, and then didn’t eat anything else until dinner. I suppose if I were going to do the thing absolutely right, I would have foregone that too, but I was afraid I’d off the deep end once I got to Greg and Maureen’s house that night if I didn’t eat a little bit before I got there. As much control as I can show in the morning on ‘fasting’ days, it’s a little different when you’ve eaten nothing all day and you arrive completely depleted to a place featuring a spread of crackers and cheese balls covered with pecans. :/
