Lent, Day 31: Appetite

Appetite is a funny thing, I’m finding.  If there were a good way to study the way emotions impact your appetite, I bet the results would be really fascinating.

Lent, Day 22: Sleeping and Drinking the Weight Away

Today seems to be a day of Alternative Approaches to Weight Loss.  It’s been very educational.

Lent, Day 15: Cold again!

Bleh.  A cold front passed through yesterday, and I’m back to walking in a frigid basement.  Either as a sign of protest or just out of brute stupidity, I refused to wear full-length jeans today anyway; I put on a pair of denim capris instead.  Indoors and upstairs, it wasn’t an issue, but down HERE in the basement, I’m freezing.   Granted, in a few minutes I’ll feel fine, but in the meantime I’m really cold.

Lent, Day 11: Basketball Day!

Today was crazy, but fun.  We got up fairly early, had a big breakfast with Wendy and her boys.  I did have to deal with the smell of cooking bacon and sausage, which wasn’t fun, but I had some eggs and enjoyed a pancake, which was probably plenty anyway.

After that, we got cleaned up and saw Wendy and the boys off, and split ranks to attend the boys’ various basketball events.  Naturally, Zack’s last game and the Zion award ceremony went on at the same time, so I went with Noah and Andy went with Zack.  We enjoyed our ice cream very much, and actually before it started I was asked by some friends of mine about the ADF thing that I’ve been doing, so we spent some of the ‘open gym’ time talking about the JUDD thing and all of that.

I actually always feel a little hesitant to answer when people ask me ‘what I’m doing’.  At this point I’ve lost nearly 50 pounds, and people definitely notice, so I get the question a lot.  It’s just that the diet sounds extreme even to ME when I try to explain it.  Maybe I just hear my Mom attempting to explain it to ME, and I know how crazy it sounded back then.  Nonetheless, I must have done okay, because they even asked me to E-mail them more information about it.  I feel like such a salesperson, and I’m getting exactly nothing out of billing it. ;)

I did walk today when we got home.  I was bummed because I managed to miss ALL of Zack’s game, which wouldn’t have been so bad except that he scored a basket and got a couple of rebounds, so he was pretty proud of himself.   It was a good note to end the season on, though, because now he’s eager to play again next year.

But anyway, I worked in a good 180 minutes today in an effort to make up for yesterday.   It was quite tiring, but it felt good.

Lent, Day 8: Downday Dilemmas

It’s not so much a warm day today, though the forecaasters promise it’s coming over the next few days.  I’m glad, too; I’m SO SICK OF WINTER.  I can’t wait until it’s warm enough out to get back on rollerblades or show my bike that it really IS good for something other than hanging from the garage ceiling and supporting the local dust population.

But alas, not yet.  The temps are up, but it’s threatening rain and there’s a lot of wind.  Hopefully tomorrow.

Exercise, Day 4: This is not my New Years’ Resolution

I say that only because A) resolution mentality seems to lead to ‘how long can I go until I break this?’ and B) I’ve been doing this since well before today, so I figure it doesn’t really count.

That said, I figure that I am joined in my treadmill walking today by thousands (if not millions) of people who are taking up the mantle of healthier living today, so consider this my smile and wave as someone else walking with you.

Today’s Edition of Jen’s 21-day Blog, in celebration of the New Year, will include the long-promised review of Dr. James B. Johnson’s ‘The Alternate Day Diet’, as I finished it this morning.

ADF/WW: Day 20

One more day to go.   I think one of my main goals with this particular round was to get myself to the point where taking the time to journal my eating habits was no longer something I viewed as a chore.  That hasn’t been an easy goal to achieve, even given the snazzy online interface I get to use with WW Online.  However, I am now finding that I feel sort of ‘at loose ends’ when I haven’t journalled my food, which is good.   Whether it’s a hassle or not, journalling gives me a sense of control over my habits, and I like feeing in control of that part of my life now.  When I don’t journal, I feel sort of lost.

You might understand, then, why I find it aggravating in the extreme when the WW site isn’t loading properly. >_<  I’ve spent the last twenty minutes trying to put in the data for a new cereal I’m trying, and it won’t let me add it.  BAH.  This happens once in awhile, so I know it’ll self correct eventually. But right now is when I’m sitting here trying to add it, so it would be really nice if it worked, you know, right now.

Enough crabbing.  While I wait for it to figure out what it’s doing, I’ll review the QOD Diet book, which I finished last night.  I know I’d said I was going to read it this weekend, but it turns out almost 50% of the book is comprised of appendices and excerpts from Dr. Daugiridas’ blog, so it was a much faster read than expected.

ADF/WW: Day 5

Before I say anything else, I want to congratulate Pangie for reaching her 21-day goal!  She went for a goal that was a bit more conventional in the sense that she worked on actually forming a good habit.  She resolved to do some bike riding (either actual bike riding or stationary bike riding, depending on the weather) every day for 21 days.  As of today, she has reached that goal!  Congratulations, Pangie!
