Lent, Day 6: Dropping Off the Scale

Oooo-kay.  While I am certainly happy to have technically achieved my second 10% goal as of today, I am (as previously stated) not quite sure whether or not to trust this.  I don’t mean to sound ungrateful, but two five-pound losses in as many weeks is pretty unprecedented, and (as previously stated) potentially unhealthy.

So … I guess I brace myself for what Rachel said — that it might not last.  Or, at the very least, that I might actually gain a pound or two back this week.  I certainly intend to do a better job of eating right this week, and of drinking enough water, so we’ll see what happens.

I did make a concerted effort to kind of stick to the upper end of my food goal today, too.  It’s a Down Day, so I try to stay under 6 points or so, but today I let myself eat a little more than I normally would.  I also made it a point to get a full serving of quinoa in, at the very least.  Protein is important.

Lent, Day 4: Forever in Blue Jeans

I did it.  After spending most of the day irritably hitching up the OTHER pair of size 18 jeans I bought, I finally got fed up and went out and got a new pair of size 16s.  I was smart and got ‘Short’ this time.

Exercise+, Day 12: Workin’ It In the Eleventh Hour

Technically, I should probably say I failed today, since I’m finishing up and it’s nearly 1:00 a.m.  However, in my defense I technically DID get 120 minutes of ‘exercise’ in before midnight…  I finally made good on my threat to get up early and do some Wii Fit first thing.  I got in an hour’s worth of workout, but on the whole I wasn’t satisfied with it, so I’m still going to do at least 100 minutes on the treadmill.

I’m such a slave driver!  But I intend to backdate (or at least back-time) this entry, because it’ll bug me to see a day on the calendar that isn’t filled. ;)   Cheater, me.

Exercise+, Day 8: Got to admit, it’s getting better…

Today, as Down Days go, was what I think I would term a ‘reassuring’ Down Day.  I was very good, ate about 1/2 cup of Quinoa for breakfast, and my usual veggie blends at lunch and dinner.  In-between I was legitimately hungry, but not such that I felt miserable.  It was just enough to reassure me that I’ve depleted my glycogen stores and presumably my body will be going to my fat stores next. ;)   Just hungry enough to feel like I’m accomplishing something, in other words.

Exercise Day 11: First Impressions are Everything

Today involved a visit to the upper-scale grocery store to pick up the things my other store didn’t carry.  Among them: wheat germ, whole wheat flour (which SnS DOES carry; I just forgot to grab some), cranberries and edamame.  I also got some Almond Butter, as per Pangie’s suggestion.  Wow, though… it cost $10 for one jar!  Yikes!

So I guess I add to my weekly total, but at last most of what I got was stuff that will take more than one week — or even one month — to consume, unless I really work at it.  I did also break down and get some of those $1.00 reusable grocery bags.  I am still not sure why, as we make use of the plastic ones to line trash cans around the house.  I almost feel like using these is more wasteful in that way, because we’re still going to use SOMETHING to line the trash cans.

Exercise, Day 8: Quinoa

Okay, last night I tried quinoa for the first time.  This lovely little grain is apparently Gillian McKeith’s absolute favorite thing, because it seems like every week she’s pushing quinoa at the poor suckers (blokes?) she attacks on You Are What You Eat.  As tenuous as my affection for ‘Dr’ Gillian McKeith has become of late, quinoa blends rule the Organic/Health Food section at my local supermarket too, so I decided to try some last night.
