EASTER!
I did it! Easter is here, and I made it all through Lent without breaking down and eating meat.

Lent, Day 45: One Day Left…
Wow, I can’t wait until tomorrow! I feel kind of silly about being THAT excited about the end of Lent, but still… I think this is the first time I have ever ‘given up’ anything for Lent that had an actual impact on my daily-life the way this turned out to have, so I guess at the very least I feel I’ve done the thing right. When I was younger it was always giving up things like ‘candy’ or ’soda’, which in my case isn’t that much of a sacrifice. I still boggle that I didn’t think giving up meat would be all that much of a sacrifice either; I was wrong about that.

Lent, Day 43: Maundy Thursday
I guess technically I broke my Vegetarian fast for Lent tonight, but this was sort of a planned thing. Zion partnered with Apple of His Eye ministries to put on a Seder Meal for the church, which obviously involved eating lamb as part of the ritual. I went in planning that I would participate, since the whole point of going vegetarian was as a form of religious observance, and that was also the point of tonight’s meal.

Lent, Day 38: Jeans, Revisited
Technically, you know, Lent is over now. As of today we switch to Holy Week, as today is Palm Sunday. But the idea is to stay ‘fasting’ until Easter, so I have one more week until I can eat meat again. Almost there.
Today’s topic is jeans.

Lent, Day 35: Shopping for Clothes Again
Not quite the same thing as last time. For one thing, I was shopping in a retail store, and for another, the clothing I was buying was …delicates?

Lent, Day 33: Andy and Odwalla
Short entry today, because I’m short on time. I just wanted to mention two things.

Lent, Day 31: Appetite
Appetite is a funny thing, I’m finding. If there were a good way to study the way emotions impact your appetite, I bet the results would be really fascinating.

Lent, Day 22: Vegetarian Chinese
We went out for dinner tonight and went to a Chinese buffet. It was the first time we’ve gone to one of those in awhile…. probably since before I started doing ADF, now that I think about it. I suggested it, thinking I was being funny, and was surprised when Andy took me up on it. Admittedly, I probably ought to have thought it through before opting for ‘going out’, since although I do love Chinese food, the sad fact is that most of the dishes I like best are …you know…MEAT dishes. If we’d done the takeout thing, I wouldn’t have had to walk past all of those wonderfully meaty entrees on my way to the ONE vegetarian entree offering the buffet had.

Lent, Day 20: Halfway Through!
Wow… as of today, I’ll be halfway through with Lent. That’s an amazing thing, really. I don’t know if it’s just the fact that Lent is so much longer than my usual 21-day run, or if avoiding eating meat is really just that much harder than I expected, but I really think this vegetarian thing has been one of the more challenging efforts I’ve made so far. Seems like every evening I’m going through a sort of letdown when I realize that whatever yummy meat-based course I’ve planned for the family is not something I will be eating myself.

Lent, Day 13: Outdoor Walkin’
Andy was called for Jury Duty today, which meant he had to arrange for a sub and then head to the courthouse first thing this morning to report in. Apparently once he got there, they had the jury candidates lined up in the appropriate room and waiting, and then the judge came in to announce that the one of the lawyers was ill and would not be able to appear. Therefore, the trial was called off and the jury candidates were free to go.
So..what started out as a potentially annoying day turned into a day off. The weather was warm, so when he got home I begged permission to go out and take a walk with Phoenix. You know, outside. On the actual road and stuff.
