Money, Day 9: Luke’s Birthday
Well, I did pretty well. Luke’s birthday gifts cost me about $40, and included a little soccer set, two wooden puzzles, two new books, a game, and toy train. I’m very pleased by this, because that really was a pretty conservative birthday for ME, spendingwise, and yet Luke was very happy with what he got. At three, of course, he doesn’t exactly have aspirations of Nintendo DSes and Wii games or anything, which definitely makes the going there much easier.. But in the past this wouldn’t have mattered that much to me. This actually gave me a chance to examine how I handle gift-buying, too, which was sort of educational.

Lent, Day 19: No Doughnuts For Jen
We went to church last night for Isaac’s baptism, so today we just had Sunday School/Bible Study to worry about. This was nice, since it meant we could sleep in a little, and there was time to actually eat a real breakfast before we headed up to Zion. Over the last week or so, I’ve made it a point to eat an egg for breakfast — one prepared Weight-Watchers style, which is actually okay with me. I’ve never been one that needed eggs to be prepared with cheese or whatever in order to enjoy them. ‘Course, this is probably just because I like salt too much, but anyway…

Exercise, Day 18: Another World
It’s weird when you realize you’ve been doing the Sour Grapes thing without even realizing it. Suddenly so many things you’ve rejected as irrelevant or unimportant start becoming interesting to you. It’s enough to make you feel sort of foolish.

ADF/WW: Day 2
Last night was sort of a tough night for me. I caught a cold last week that developed into a sore throat and cough on Sunday. By yesterday I had no voice at all, and it hurt to even try and talk.
This made it easier to ‘fast’ yesterday. Since I was tracking points, I know that at the end of the day, I had eaten only 5 points worth of anything: a banana (2), a cup of juice (2), and a cup of broth (1). I didn’t really want anything else. I just wanted to sleep.
Andy knew I’d had a rough day. When you have four children and you can’t talk, life can be a bit of a challenge. My kids are good kids, fortunately, and they actually found my lack of voice to be rather novel and fun. We developed a system where I would clap when I wanted their attention, and then I’d attempt to convey what I wanted or needed in charades fashion. If that didn’t work, I’d try to whisper it or type a message to them that Zack or Noah would then read. Even so, though, it was a long, stressful day.
